Robert Bierman directs Nicolas Cage in one of his earliest performances in Vampire's Kiss, which comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Cage, and the original theatrical trailer. This is a strong release from MGM/UA that Cage fans should certainly see.

This is a great movie - It's hard to understand why it never really achieved the cult status it deserves. Cage gives an insanely funny performance as Peter Loew, an egotistical 80's yuppie who is slowly losing his grip on reality. The plot is a bit twisted, and leaves a few questions unanswered, so it will appeal to fans of David Lynch style mysteries. Those who are already fans of the film should really enjoy the commentary by Nick Cage and the film's director.
