Overview

In 1989, widespread revulsion at the heavy-handed and madly egotistical rule of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu (and his equally demented wife) resulted in one of the swiftest changes of government in recent history, as the nation rose up as one against him. Interestingly, this spontaneous coup was not so much a revolt against communism in that country as it was against that particular man. The straw that "broke the camel's back" was a televised speech he gave on December 21, 1989. The maker of this documentary makes the claim that so many people posses video cameras these days that the history of any revolution can be shown simply by gathering clips from the videos people will inevitably shoot. It goes on to prove its case with clips from over 100 videos, some of them of poor technical quality, that nonetheless capture the feelings of excitement, confusion, dread, and urgency that swept the country at the time.
