Waking the Dead ably taps into the public's interest in all things forensic. It focuses on the Met's Cold Case Unit, who are charged with solving crimes that normal investigative endeavors have failed to solve. Trevor Eve plays DS Peter Boyle, who heads up the unit. He is headstrong and arrogant and sometimes acts rashly. Sue Johnston plays Grace Foley, a psychologist who offers profiling assistance and often serves as the id to Boyle's ego, trying vainly to apply the brakes when he's off and running. The rest of the team include the overworked, but brilliant, forensics expert, and a couple of investigators. The cases tend to be quite interesting, and the series is shot like a film--it looks gorgeous on screen. My only (mild) complaint is that it sometimes favors style over substance a little too much. All in all, most entertaining.
