( 23 )

Overview

In this outing from Aardman Animation, Wallace has converted his home into a granary complete with a fully functional, old fashioned windmill (patent pending) on the roof, and as a result "Top Bun" has become one of the hottest bakeries in town. But all is not well in the neighborhood, because more than a dozen local bakers have gone missing in the last few months alone. Now, as Wallace falls head over heels for former Bake-O-Lite bread girl Piella Bakewell (voice of Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay), Gromit ...

What we have come to expect from W&G!

Exceptional animation, great characterizations, clever wordplay and sight gags wrapped up in a fastpaced Hitchcockian plot involving revenge, romance, murder and bread. If there is a negative, and that's a big if, it lies in the pace of the plot: Whereas so many films could improve through judicious editing, "Loaf and Death" could have used perhaps a few more minutes just to flesh out (no pun intended, if you have seen the film) the character of Piella Bakewell. Still, a most worthy addition to the W&G canon.

    Instant Classic!

When I heard that W&G was releasing a new video, I was a little bit worried. The original three short films ("The Wrong Trousers," "A Grand Day Out," and "A Close Shave," each also only 30 minutes long) are so original, I was worried that a new one wouldn't live up to the expectation.

    But it did.

"A Matter of Loaf and Death" is every bit as clever as the first three. There's a bit of intrigue and suspense -- most like "The Wrong Trousers" than any other. I would recommend this for any W&G lover, new or old.

Wallace & Gromit in 'A Matter of Loaf & Death"

My husband & I have been great fans of Nick Parks & Aardvark Animations for many years now & this feature did not disappoint. It was funny, suspenseful & full of Wallace's gadget ingenuity.

    British Humor At It's Best

Can't wait to receive this DVD in the mail. I'm a big fan of the dry humor and claymotion animation (older technology that has a certain charm that only adds to the humorous premise. The Wallace and Gromit series is an example of just how imaginative animated shorts can be. Hats off to Nick Park's previous entries and I know I'll enjoy this one, too. Takes me back to a better time.
