Overview

When they met, she was an American divorcée; he was destined to be king of England. Based on extensive research, the British drama Wallis and Edward marks the first time their story has been told from Wallis Simpson's point of view. Was she a scheming seductress bent on becoming queen or a woman caught up in events she didn't understand and couldn't stop? In perhaps the first sympathetic British portrayal of Mrs. Simpson, Joely Richardson Nip/Tuck stars as the fashionable and vivacious social climber who, this drama suggests, was more vulnerable than scheming. Stephen Campbell Moore turns in an equally uncanny performance as the dashing young prince who ascends the throne as Edward VIII but then must choose between his heart and his country. This ITV production, which the Daily Mirror dubbed "unmissable," originally aired on cable's BBC America on February 12, 2007. The DVD also includes an interview with screenwriter Sarah Williams, who explains how she researched her new interpretation of the story.
