Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Disney buffs and lovers of classic cartoons will be eager to get on the road again with this collection of five geographically themed vintage shorts. Highlights include "The Reluctant Dragon" (1941) -- previously released in a now-out-of-print Walt Disney Treasures set -- and the ravishingly beautiful 1934 Silly Symphony "Goddess of Spring," one of the artistically groundbreaking cartoons that paved the way for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Donald Duck and Goofy aren't exactly Hope and Crosby, but they pack in the laughs in "Polar Trappers" (1938), and Goofy is hilarious as a tourist mistaken for a Mexican bullfighter in "For Whom the Bulls Toil" (1953). Sterling "Winnie the Pooh" Holloway narrates the charming 1952 cartoon "The Little House," a cautionary tale about the price of progress. As with previous volumes in this budget-priced line, there is little educational value to these cartoons, except for the incalculable benefit of traveling in the good company of one's imagination.
