Overview

Wayne's World, one of the few Saturday Night Live skits to become a successful movie, also makes for a fine DVD. First off, Paramount presents the disc in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and it is anamorphic. While the image shows some of the signs of a relatively low budget, it still looks very good. Colors are realistic though detail is not always as strong as would be hoped for. The sound, which has been remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1, is clear and distortion free, even though there is a lack of any surround material. It wouldn't be expected in a film like this, so it's no disappointment. Also available are English and French surround tracks. A real surprise is the addition of a new audio commentary from director Penelope Spheeris. Her enthusiasm makes for a fine track with little gaps and plenty of personal and professional anecdotes. It's obvious that she has a love for this film. Next up is a half-hour of interviews with the cast and crew. These are very well put together and also show how much they enjoyed making this film. Rounding out this nice disc is the theatrical trailer. Fans of this film should not pass up the disc, which they will find to be well worth their money.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
Wayne's World marked the big-screen emergence of one of the silliest comic sensibilities of the 1990s, Saturday Night Live's Mike Myers. Myers co-wrote the film, and while Wayne's World shares the absurd, nonsensical punning of a comedy such as Airplane! (1980), it has an irreverence and good nature all its own. Director Penelope Spheeris gives sequences time to develop -- unlike the standard rapid-fire approach in most comedies -- and as a result, the bits gain a loose, bizarre, and almost self-referential quality that intensifies the laughs. This kind of mocking, joke-within-a-joke style would become Myers' trademark. In the lead role, the comedian is vulnerable enough to make his character's foibles endearing, and his squirmy, gleeful charm is both believable and funny.

Wayne's World is a 'masterpiece', as it were. Very original, and well worth seeing. After my ex- wife took my copy on VHS (no way!), I bought the DVD (bonus!) If you think Mike Meyers is funny, he doesn't get any funnier than this...

This is one of the greatest movies of all time. Penelope Spheeris is such a great director. The movie was shot in about 32 days and still Mike myers finds his way to improvise under the tight schedule(Mike and Dana both were still working on SNL while making this). This movie is hilarious, everyone will find at least one joke they like. i think this is the most quotable movie of all time.

This is definetly the best of both Saturday Night Livers, Myers and Carvey. This is an all time favorite of mine, and I encourage anyone who likes to laugh to buy it. You'll watch a thousand times and still laugh!
