Pop icon Madonna returns to the director's seat for the first time since her 2008 feature debut, Filth and Wisdom, for this ambitious romance detailing one lonely woman's obsession with the relationship between King Edward VIII James D'Arcy and American divorcée Wallis Simpson Andrea Riseborough. To Wally Winthrop Abbie Cornish, no act of devotion in history is more romantic than King Edward VIII abdicating the throne to be with his one true love. But the deeper Wally dives into the background of this controversial love affair, the more apparent it becomes that their relationship was no bed of roses. Now, as each new discovery paints an increasingly dire picture for the once-happy couple, Wally begins to grow disillusioned about the prospect of true love.

    A KING'S STORY

The story of King Edward VIII and the american divorcee, Wallis Warfield Simpson is one that has been told over and over again. The abdication crisis of 1936 shook England and the world at that time. Edward barely ruled as king, for a year. He did not even stayed long on the british throne for his coronation. He left everything after abdication to follow his heart's desire which was Wallis. They lived in France for years, as the duke and duchess of Windsor with German sympathies during WW II. This movie is a retelling of that great love story. It is artistically made and faithful to the true events of the story. The other Wallis in the movie is an american girl names after Wallis and whose mother wants her to marry a prince. She was devoted to the Windsors that she spent much time in New York's Sotheby auction house and exhibit. Ultimately, she bought a set of gloves belonging to the duchess which caused a rift between her and her husband. This novie has a good plot and pacing. I recommend this for King Edward fans and the general public who wants to read modern british monarch history!!!! King Edward VIII is the uncle of the reigning monarch, Elizabeth R
