Few TV shows last year generated as much water-cooler buzz as this Showtime series about a suburban Southern California housewife who takes to dealing marijuana to make ends meet. The appealing, underrated Mary-Louise Parker plays Nancy Botwin, a suddenly widowed soccer mom with no marketable skills, who begins selling pot to avoid becoming, as she puts it, "the oldest Gap employee in Southern California." Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
Few TV shows last year generated as much water-cooler buzz as this Showtime series about a suburban Southern California housewife who takes to dealing marijuana to make ends meet. The appealing, underrated Mary-Louise Parker plays Nancy Botwin, a suddenly widowed soccer mom with no marketable skills, who begins selling pot to avoid becoming, as she puts it, "the oldest Gap employee in Southern California." The ten episodes of Season 1 establish this premise as it introduces Nancy's circle of acquaintances -- including best friend and neighbor Celia Hodes Elizabeth Perkins, another fine, underrated actress and city councilman Doug Wilson Saturday Night Live alumnus Kevin Nealon. There's a lot of subversive humor here, much of it generated by Nancy's newfound dedication to entrepreneurship in a decidedly illegal endeavor. But Weeds goes further than that: It's another in the progression of movies and TV series dedicated to the proposition that neatly trimmed lawns and well-maintained houses conceal suburbia's moral decay. Nancy's criminal activities thus are made to seem wholly defensible and relatively harmless, and certainly less egregious than the offenses of her hypocritical, posturing neighbors. That's a dicey premise, but Weeds gets away with it because the series boasts sharp writing and impeccable performances.

    Great!

I first heard discovered the existence of this show through Barnes & Noble online actually, during when they were advertising one of the seasons on their main page, and decided that it sounded like a funny show & I should see it sometime. A friend of mine recently bought the first season of Weeds and watched through it & really liked it, and decided to buy up some more seasons. He recently let me borrow this first season, and I hafta say, despite some crass language & behavior in some parts, this show is actually pretty entertaining and funny. I won't go into real detail about the plot, because there is a synopsis of that on the main page, but I would have to say that my favorite character is Andy, played by Justin Kirk. He's pretty funny. The entire cast does a great job though. As a fore-warning, this show does contain crass humor and language & whatnot, as I mentioned, a little bit of nudity & sex, and a great deal of drug content...considering the main character Nancy and several others are pot dealers. If that doesn't bother you too entirely much, this is certainly a worth while show. Quite entertaining, I thought...spare a few parts. For comedy/drama lovers. Check it out! Warning: There is some vulgar & crude language and subject matter in some parts of this, and even a little bit of nudity/sex in one episode, so if you're sensitive to that, then this may not be for you...and certainly not for children, but otherwise...it's a great show!

    'Weeds' New-comers, Read This!

This show is hilarious and interesting. Don't get discouraged if by the first few episodes or maybe even the entire first season you're not into it. Watch seasons 1 & 2 all the way through and see if you do not wish to continue on to season 3, then to 4, 5, and so on. Kevin Nealon personally makes it for me. If he were not in the show, I would easily still watch it, but he supplies majority of the humor aspect.
