Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Season 3 of the hit show Will & Grace, about a gal and her gay best friend, continues with its winning formula of slapstick, gay jokes, and sex-tinged comedy. The third year opens with Will Eric McCormack returning from his stay on a tropical island to find that Grace Debra Messing -- who is torn between two boyfriends -- and his friend Jack Sean Hayes have bonded in "New Will City." Grace's boozy, bitchy, best friend, Karen Megan Mullally, is still at odds with Jack over his divorce from Rosario Shelley Morrison in "Fear and Clothing." Patrick Dempsey's recurring character and Will's eventual love interest, Matthew, is introduced in "Love Plus One," although Jack has an eye on him first in this episode. Will & Grace also began a new custom this season -- stunt casting -- that landed some huge stars for memorable, albeit brief, appearances. Cher appears as herself in the standout episode "Gypsies, Tramps and Weed," wherein Jack finally meets the singer he idolizes and mistakenly assumes she's a drag queen. Sean Hayes's Jack is often the highlight of the show, and watching him do a Cher impersonation while the real deal stands behind him is not to be missed. Other stars this season include: Woody Harrelson as new neighbor Nathan, who becomes a romantic interest for Grace over several episodes; Sydney Pollack as Will's dad, George; Debbie Reynolds as Grace's mother, Bobbi; Sandra Bernhard; Camryn Manheim of The Practice; and in the episode "My Uncle the Car," Ellen DeGeneres as a nun who buys a car owned by Grace's dead uncle and then refuses to sell it back, despite Grace's pleas. Any lackluster episodes tend to be saved by the wacky hijinks of Jack and Karen, but overall Will & Grace maintains a steady formula of comedy that shines through all 25 episodes on this set.
