Charlton Heston says in the bonus interview contained with this

Charlton Heston says in the bonus interview contained with this video that it was his favorite film role and that he considered it to be one of the best westerns ever made.It is a classic which is in rich company as one of only a handful of cowboy films which deals explicitly with the theme of the aging cowboy or the dying of an era (e.g. Monte Walsh, Tom Horn, Ride the High Country, The Wild Bunch and the more modern-era Lonely Are the Brave and Junior Bonner.) The movie has stellar performances by both Heston and Joan Hackett. It also has an A-list of cowboy character actors which include Ben Johnson, Slim Pickens, Luke Askew, Bruce Dern and others, and marks the film debut of Lee Majors.
