Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
What a joy it is to return to Toad Hall for the continuing misadventures of the impulsive and impetuous Mr. Toad and his steadfast, long-suffering friends, Mole, Rat, and Badger. The Complete Second Series of this award-winning British stop-motion animated series takes Kenneth Grahame's timeless characters through the seasons, from the exhilarating first snow of winter in "Winter Sports" and the first day of spring in "The Storm" to a fruit-picking autumn day in "Harvest." The weasels, as usual, are scheming to take control of either Toad Hall or Toad's valuables in "Bankruptcy," "The Great Golfing Gamble," "May Day," and "Fancy Dress." And Toad, as usual, is in thrall to his passions: taking pictures in "Toad, Photographer" and electricity in "Gadget Mad." The Wind in the Willows is faithful to Grahame's voice (this series could serve as an invaluable vocabulary builder) and the whimsical spirit of his classic book. Its talkiness and more languid pace may test the patience of some, but more will bask in the warm glow of these mostly gentle stories and delight in Toad's silly antics.
