Overview

Wonder Woman is back -- this time in a season-one DVD set that every fan of the '70s cheese-soaked TV series should love, which includes 13 episodes and the New Original Wonder Woman pilot from the first season. The audio and video presentation are clear of age effects, with the audio remastered into a Dolby Digital Mono signal. Extras include pilot commentary by the super gal herself, Lynda Carter, along with executive producer Douglas S. Cramer. A new 20-minute documentary "Beauty, Brawn, and Bulletproof Bracelets: A Wonder Woman Retrospective" has also been included, complete with cast and crew interviews along with other comic book stalwarts like painter Alex Ross -- who seems to be the go-to guy for Warner Bros. superhero DVDs these days.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
The idea for the series that launched Lynda Carter into the pop culture stratosphere began with a failed pilot film that starred -- if you can believe it -- Cathy Lee Crosby as a blonde Wonder Woman. ABC wisely decided to pass on that 1974 pilot. But in 1975, developer Stanley Ralph Ross pitched a new movie starring the 1973 Miss USA winner, Lynda Carter, as Princess Diana of the Amazons, the most formidable female in the DC Comics universe. When "The New, Original Wonder Woman" film (included here) aired in November '75 on ABC, fans reacted positively and the network ordered a first season. The pilot is set during World War II and introduces the Amazons, peaceful denizens of a secret island who are suddenly faced with a what-do-we-do dilemma when a man crash-lands in their midst. He's U.S. Army Intelligence officer Capt. Steve Trevor (Carol Burnett Show straight-man Lyle Waggoner), and he's a strapping fellow with nothing but the world's best intentions. It is decided that Princess Diana will return to the U.S. with Trevor as Wonder Woman, to use her powers against the Axis forces. To keep from being discovered, she disguises herself as an Army nurse and then magically changes into Wonder Woman when needed. Remarkably faithful to the comic of the '40s, the first season featured Wonder Woman foiling Axis saboteurs and spies. Highlights include: fan favorite "Fausta: The Nazi Wonder Woman," wherein a female Nazi operative tries to capture Wonder Woman; the two-part "The Feminum Mystique," wherein Wonder Woman simultaneously deals with the kidnapping of her sister and a Nazi plot to swipe the prototype for America's first jet fighter; and "Wonder Woman vs. Gargantua!," a dazzling camp-fest that finds W.W. facing off with a Nazi gorilla. Notable guest stars show up in Season 1, including Roy Rogers, Red Buttons, Cloris Leachman, Robert Loggia, and a very young Debra Winger in her first credited TV appearance.

I bought this collection recently and it looks like the company took the video cassette of episodes and copied into DVD format!! I can see pixels and I don't even have an HDTV!! I guess that's why all three seasons were reduced to half in the store!! And of course I purchased all three but I'm still happy to finally own Wonder Woman because I've been looking for this collection for a long time! I'm just sad it's not a complete refurbish? restoration? where it's cleaner than a video cassette viewing. You also have to be careful with the discs since they made it to play both sides!! I already got scratches on side b and like I mentioned I just recently bought this!

I BOUGHT THIS FROM YOU GUYS BECAUSE YOU WERE CHEAPER THAN WHAT I'VE FOUND IT FOR IN STORES. I HAVE ENJOYED ALL THE EPISODES THAT I'VE VIEWED SO FAR. IT TAKES ME BACK TO WHEN I WAS A KID AND I COULDN'T WAIT FOR THIS SHOW TO COME ON TV! COLUMBIA HOUSE HAD THESE EPISODES FOR YEARS BUT YOU COULD NEVER GET THEM UNLESS YOU JOINED THEIR CLUB AND BOUGHT JUST A FEW AT A CRAZY PRICE. I'M GLAD THEY DECIDED TO PUT IT ON DVD--AND THE WHOLE 1ST SEASON. I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE SEASONS TO COME OUT!!

I can't believe they finally released Wonder Woman on DVD. It's about time. I grew up watching this show. Wonder Woman was and still is a hero to me. The show is great fun to watch and brings back great memories. I can't wait for the other seasons to be released.
