    Action-packed & never slows down

I have watched this movie on cable at least 3 times. The soundtrack gets 5 stars & Kilmer gets 4 & 1/2 stars. I see no weakness' in any characters & I don't see anything weak about the plot except that it ends. I would have liked to have seen another 15 minutes- 1/2 hr. added to the video. But, maybe the story might of slowed down. Kilmer's performance reminds me of his character Jim Morrison in The Doors. So, Kilmer has 2 controversial Los Angeles characters to his credit. Maybe Charles Manson could be next. I lived in L. A. when this event occurred. It was a huge media event, similar to the Manson Murders. I was in L. A.
Once again the songs used in the movie are excellent contributions to the video's high octane scenes. And, the drug & party scenes are quite realistic not phony. rushCA

    Not Impressive

I was not very impressed by this portrayal of the sleazy and narcissistic John Holmes at its worst, as he becomes acquainted with motorcycle bums and prison gang types that take him to the edge of sanity and possibly, murder. The generous application of Kilmer gives it some lift so as not to be complete disaster.

VAL KILMER AS THE KING OF PORN?

It's beyond flattering to cast Val Kilmer as John C. Holmes, whose resemblance to Eddie Haskel of LEAVE IT TO BEAVER was The King of Porn's second claim to fame. Apparently Ken Osmond is content with his LAPD retirement pension or didnt return James Cox telephone calls. This story should have been more than extended television (The E-TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY segment does a better job and the documentary WADD, is the definitive source). It should have shown this as the pre-cursor to the Brown-Goldman homicides of 1994 and the LAPD's botch-up of a celebrity infused murder case. The film is saved by outstanding performances by Kilmer, Lisa Kudrow and Eric Bogosian (way over the top) as Eddie Nash. Paris Hilton shows up in a cameo as a cocaine snorting bimbette. I'll say no more.
