Overview

A man is being driven crazy by his shiftless best friend, just as the layabout starts making nice with his wife and neighbors in this comedy. Carl and Molly Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson are a thirtysomething couple who have just gotten married and are settling down into a cozy new home in a quiet neighborhood. While Carl and Molly are happy with their new digs, Carl's best friend, Randy Dupree Owen Wilson, is not content with his living arrangements. Dupree has all but made a career out of avoiding work, responsibility, and commitment, and while his charm usually manages to keep him afloat, when he loses his job, his apartment, and his car. Carl can't bear to see Dupree in such dire circumstances, and tells Dupree he can stay on their couch until he can get things straightened out. But while Carl was expecting Dupree to stay for a few days, it soon becomes obvious to both him and Molly that their guest has no intention of moving out anytime soon, and while the likable freeloader starts working his charm on Molly, their neighbors, and their friends, Carl soon finds himself at the end of his rope with his best man and childhood buddy. You, Me and Dupree also stars Amanda Detmer, Seth Rogen, and Michael Douglas as Molly's father.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
There’s an old saying: No good deed goes unpunished. That’s the lesson learned by the Peterson newlyweds, Molly (Kate Hudson) and Carl (Matt Dillon), who take pity on Carl’s hapless best friend, Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson), inviting him to temporarily stay in their new home. When Dupree’s visit degenerates into an extended tenancy, the Peterson marriage begins to show the strain, with Carl’s stress level further elevated by his boss, Kate’s father (Michael Douglas). Sibling directors Anthony and Joe Russo move the story along rapidly, zooming past wildly improbably plot situations, making sure that the irrepressibly charming Wilson is never far from sight. Two things will become apparent to anybody watching the essential DVD supplements: First, the palpable chemistry between Hudson and Wilson (who were romantically linked in the tabloids soon after the film’s release) and, second, the fact that several of the movie’s funniest scenes never made the final cut. The former is plainly evident in nearly every inch of on-the-set footage, which suggests that Hudson couldn’t keep a straight face while shooting even brief, minor scenes with Wilson. The latter is obvious from various bloopers and outtakes, among them a hilarious ad-lib exchange between Wilson and bit player Harry Dean Stanton. The half hour of bonus material also includes a spoof trailer that employs clever editing to make this harmless comedy seem -- rather convincingly, we might add -- like a horror movie, with Dillon appearing to be a homicidal maniac.

    Ah, dupree.

This movie is Owen Wilson at his finest. Although the whole time you are wishing that Dupree will steal Carl's wife, this never happens. However, in real life, Owen Wilson steals Kate Hudson. It is my theory that if this movie had been written differently, Dupree would have had enough of Kate Hudson that he wouldn't have become the homewrecker he is today. This movie is full of endless laughter. It is easily the funniest movie I have ever seen, and it will leave you taken by Dupreeze!

A COMPLETE AND UTTER WASTE OF TIME

This is one of the worst "comedies" I have seen in a long time. The talent of the actors is completely wasted. This movie was hard to get through because it is so boring. It's pointless. Don't get fooled by the trailers this movie is not good. What was Michael Douglas doing in this mess ? He must have made this one for the money.
