"Madonna's video collection DVD is an odd assortment of hits and misses. A definite bonus is the inclusion of ""Fever."" The video mix of that song is completely unavailable on CD (it's not even on the import single for the song). For a collector's purposes, having this version on DVD is as good as (or better than) having the CD. Other highlights include ""Drowned World/Substitute For Love,"" which never saw the light of day in the United States, as well as ""Beautiful Stranger,"" which is unavailable on any of her albums. Unfortunately, this collection is also burdened with several glaring omissions. First, ""Deeper and Deeper,"" one of the bigger hits from the Erotica period, is not included here (neither is ""Erotica"" for purposes of avoiding a parental advisory label). ""You'll See,"" a Top Ten hit from Something to Remember and a video sequel to ""Take a Bow"" is also left off, as is ""You Must Love Me,"" the only new song recorded for the film version of Evita, and a Top 20 hit at that. The decision to include virtual non-hits such as ""Love Don't Live Here Anymore"" over smashes such as ""You'll See"" or ""I'll Remember"" is bewildering, making this collection a decidedly mixed bag."

Her fourth music DVD, Video Collection, delivers 14 of her most recent hits, from 1993's "Bad Girl" to 1999's "Beautiful Stranger." Though it doesn't offer much in the way of DVD-specific features, the artistry of directors like Mark Romanek, Stephane Sedaoui, David Fincher, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, as well as Madonna herself, is on full display with videos like "Take a Bow," "Bedtime Story," "Human Nature," "Frozen," and "Ray of Light." All in all, it's a worthwhile collection of memorable videos from one of pop's trendsetters. ~ Heather Phares
