Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The attractive cover on this board book should entice toddlers to open it up. The images of various foods are raised on the surface and either printed in white on a colored background or in color on the white cover background. Corn is shown on the stalk, but it is partially shucked to reveal the rows of kernels. The apple is red and looks perfect. In a little bit of a reverse, the green grapes are displayed on a purple background and the piece of watermelon takes up an entire spread. The strawberry and pretzel are enticing as are the carrots and peas. Again one of the attractions is the tactile element and the large images on crisp white pages. Children are presented plenty of fruits and vegetables and very few sweets or snack items which can start to reinforce healthy eating habits at a very early age. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
Kirkus Reviews
The chic homefurnishings juggernaut continues its forays into children's books (Count, 2009, etc.). Their trademark clean, sophisticated lines and hip, muted palette adapt well to this introductory foodintroduction book. Corn (on the cob), apple, orange, grapes, watermelon, strawberry, pretzel, carrots and peas all appear in appropriate, if not bold, coloration, embossed in a shiny, smooth material that, when appropriate, is embossed again to highlight salient features such as kernels of corn, watermelon seeds and pretzel salt. Go (9781609050009) gives the same treatment to modes of transportation (including a blimp!) and such attendant accessories as traffic lights and directional signs. They may be a little soulless, but they will coordinate with your bath linens. (Board book. 6 mos.1)
