The Dying Times: Nadene's Story This book is a genuine masterpiece of this type of genre. Actually, it could fit into a number of different categories and styles of writing. I read a couple of chapters and then put the book down. I kept thinking about the story and decided to just read a little more. Well, I wound up reading the whole book. I found out that once you start reading this book you can not stop. It starts in the year 2013 where we find the eastern portion of the United States is being attacked. Missiles carrying biological agents are falling and killing thousands of people. But then a strange thing happens. Some of the dead come back to life and begin to attack and kill people who were not effected by the bombs. I found this story to be interesting,and it may hold a whisper of what may happen if some things do not change in our world. Everyone will have their own perceptions of the story and characters. I firmly believe that this book will be enjoyed by all who read it. I loved the way the characters were developed and how they teamed up to go west, away from the horrific things that were happening to save their own lives. This book was so good I found it hard to believe it was from a first time author. Do yourself a favor and buy the book. You won't be disappointed. Rated PG 13 for violence

This book is a absolute page turner right from the start. It keeps you on the edge of your seat just unable to stop reading. A great book for any zombie or suspense fan.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.The Dying Times is zombie fest of creepiness~!! 13 year old Nadene starts off her day as any other normal teenager...life is mundane and uneventful, that is, until her stomach starts to hurt, warning her of danger yet to come. After a fire breaks out at school, Nadene goes to stay at her best friends house, while her mother is at work. There she learns from the news broadcasts that germ-warfare missiles are heading from Africa to the USA. Again, her stomach hurts and she doesn't yet know that this "fore-telling" may save her life and the lives around her. After the missiles hit the east coast...Nadene and her mother, Pam, decide their best course of action is to get away from the area and fast. Deciding upon Texas, the two gather up some lost and frightened souls along the way. With "Final Destination" like dreams, Nadene is often able to save the group from many ill-fated events thus taking her role as a leader among the adults. They begin to trust her "gut sense" and Nadene leads the group to their only means of a getaway...a helicopter...but it means traveling back the way they have come, thru the ever increasing hordes of zombies out for human flesh...some scenes are macabre and frightening and if you love zombies, you'll enjoy this book. I found once the zombies came into the picture, it was very hard to put the book down. I loved how Brian Kittrell uses some of the zombies in his scenes...and chuckled trying to imagine a few of them. The gore in the zombie scenes was just enough to visualize and left you wondering where they were going to turn up. I found the dialogue a little stiff at times and wished more effort was spent on the back characters by giving them a bit more life on the pages...I felt rushed in reading about them and wished I had a learned a little more. All in all, I found the book zomb~tastic and cannot wait to read more of this new series.

"The Dying Times: Nadene's Story" by Mr. Brian Kittrell is everyone's worst nightmare. A country has bombed us with biological bombs. Nadene and her mother, Pam, decided to try to make it to Texas before everyone gets ill from the bombs. Along the way they pick up people who are also trying to escape. There is one problem, the bombs don't make people sick, they turn into zombies. Will Nadene and her friends make it to Texas or will they turn into zombies themselves.
I must say that I didn't stop reading the book until the end because it was grabbing you from the first chapter. Nadene was written in such a way that you felt everything that she was feeling at the time. It showed what people might do in the event that such a thing were to happen to us. It also has shown me the amount of research that Mr. Kittrell did before writing this book. Since this is part of a series by the author, I can't wait to read the rest as it is definitely worth the read.

Painful to read, simple charactors...the author states the obvious, spelling errors, missing words. Was there an editor at all? Couldnt get past the first few pages

pretty good read for being free. ends abruptly tho. also the protagonist is a 13 yr old girl but it seems like the writer doesnt know how 13 yr old girls behave very well. her behavior is all just generic over simplified stuff. just seemd like the writer, a male, didnt really commit to making the female lead believable. other than that pretty dang good.

Overview
When the United States faces off against a Zairian warlord, no one could have predicted the outcome: apocalypse at the hands of the living dead.
