Overview

You never know what you might uncover …

This chilling procedural is perfect for fans of Ian Rankin and Peter James.

While digging the foundation for the conversion of an old farmyard into upscale stables, builders unearth a human hand preserved in clay. Suddenly suspicious, the police explore further and find not one body, but two.

To crack a case that's even colder than the ground, detectives Cooper and Fry must look into the past of the eerily named Pity Wood Farm. But there is no obvious reason why the previous owners, two elderly brothers, would have corpses buried on their land. With little to go on but a collection of old bones, Cooper and Fry search desperately for a clue as to who—or what—brings death to Pity Wood Farm.

330 pages, book 8 of series, first published in 2007

This book is set in England, near Ireland. It was first published in 2007, then re- released in 2014. I paid about $7.00 forthis well edited, 330 page book. This is book 8 of the series. Fry and Cooper have a new boss and rumors abound. Diane's sister, Angie takes off to parts unknown, after she does a good deed. Fry and Cooper battle with locals, who have long held superstitions. There is not as much violence in this book as there are in many of the others. The descriptions are not as gizzly. There are several murders from years ago, but the bodies were only recently found. No animals are harmed in the writing of this novel. No sex, romance, religion, cursing or homosexuality. Two people were killed during commission of a crime, near the end of the book. The conclusion was very satisfactory. I consider this book one of the better ones of the series. It was easier to follow. This book seemed to be over long at times. It is not chick lit. It is a murder mystery for all adults. Recommended.
