Jory Strong’s latest in the Supernatural Bonds series, Dylan’s Witch, draws the reader in with a spine tingling opening murder scene. Dylan Archer, a homicide detective, has an Elven heartstone that let’s him know his heartmate is Seraphine, a witch. Throughout his adult life, Dylan has actively tried to ignore the fact that supernatural beings and magic exists. Dylan has strong feelings for Seraphine, but he is afraid to act on them because he fears that he is like his father, a man who will always be unfaithful. Since he cheated on a girlfriend in college, Dylan does not want to hurt Seraphine in that way so he does his level best to stay away from her. Seraphine, also in possession of a heartstone, patiently waits for Dylan to come to her for help. When he does, the sparks between them fly. Their bedroom play is hot and intoxicating. With Seraphine’s help, Dylan realizes that he is not his father, and he also realizes that he loves Seraphine deeply. When they finally get on the same page, they are an electrifying couple. At the same time, Strong efficiently develops a complex plot with engaging secondary characters. These secondary characters, each with their own connections to the supernatural, are part of the police force and help to advance the plot to its stunning climax.
I must admit that Dylan’s Witch was not what I was expecting, having only read Dragon Master. I anticipated another paranormal erotic romance, but Dylan’s Witch is a romantic paranormal police procedural that captivates with memorable characters and stunning plot twists that keep you engaged for the entire book right up to the ending that doesn’t disappoint.
