Meet the Author

Craig Van Slyke is an Assistant Professor of Management InformationSystems at the University of Central Florida. He was formerly amember of the Management Information Systems faculty at OhioUniversity. In addition to his academic experience, he spent tenyears in the IT industry in a number of technical, managerial, andmarketing positions.
Dr. Van Slyke's current research interests are in electroniccommerce, and information technology and education. Issues inelectronic commerce of particular interest include factors relatingto its adoption by individuals (especially the role of trust inadoption decisions), its adoption by small businesses, anddifferences in its adoption across cultures and across genders.Information technology and education topics researched are skillsrequired of IT professionals, teams and teamwork, and technologymediation of distance learning.
Dr. Van Slyke has published in a number of journals, including theCommunications of the Association of Computing Machinery,Information Resource Management Journal, Annals of Cases onInformation Technology Applications, Industrial Management &Data Systems, Journal of Information System Education, Journal ofInformation Technology Theory and Application, and InformationTechnology, Learning and Performance Journal. In addition, he hascontributed chapters to several edited research compilations.
He has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate informationtechnology courses, including Electronic Commerce, DatabaseAdministration, Systems Analysis and Design, and the Management ofInformation Systems. He has also lectured internationally on avariety of topics related to electronic business. In 2001, hereceived the Galloway Award for Undergraduate teaching.
He received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University ofSouth Florida. He also holds a Masters in Business Administrationfrom thre University of Central Florida.

France Bélanger is the Director of the Center for GlobalE-Commerce and an associate professor of information systems in theDepartment of Accounting and Information Systems at Virginia Tech.Prior to her academic career, she held various technical,marketing, and managerial positions in large information systemsand telecommunications corporations in Canada. She has alsoprovided consulting services to corporations In Florida.
Her interests focus on the use of telecommunication technologies inorganizations, in particular for distributed work arrangements,electronic commerce, and distance learning. She has published innumerous Information Systems journals, including InformationSystems Research, Communications of the ACM, IEEE Transaction onProfessional Communication, Information & Management, TheInformation Society, Information Resources Management Journal,Database, Office Systems Research Journal e-Service Journal and theJournal of Information Systems Education. Her first book, formanagers, entitled Evaluation and Implementation of DistanceLearning: Technologies, Tools and Techniques (Idea GroupPublishing, 2000), was co-authored with Dr. Dianne H. Jordan. Dr.Bélanger work has been funded by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, theDepartment of Education, and the Commonwealth of Virginia's Centerfor Innovativae Technology.
Dr. Bélanger has been teaching a variety of graduate andundergraduate technical and managerial IS courses, includingSystems Analysis and Design, Database Management Systems, ManagingInformation Services, E-Commerce Security, Web Applications andE-Commerce, and many Telecommunications, Networks, and DataCommunications courses. She also designed Web-based seminars forbusinesses, and taught continuing education courses on E-Commerce,the Internet, and Security both in Virginia and Florida. Shereceived the Pamplin College Award for the undergraduate teachingat Virginia Tech In 2001 and her Ph.D. in Information Systems fromthe University of South Florida. She holds a Bachelor of Commercedegree from McGill University and a College Degree in AppliedSciences from Ahuntsic College.
