About the Author

Edna St. Vincent Millay was born on February 22nd, 1892, in Rockland, Maine. She acquired her middle name from St. Vincents Hospital, where her maternal uncle had recently been treated, and throughout her life she was known to friends and family as "Vincent" rather than Edna. She published her first poem in St. Nicholas Magazine for children when she was fourteen. She was hailed as a poetic prodigy when she published "Renascence" in 1912.
