Children's Literature - Pat Trattles
Part of the "Looking at Earth" series from Crabtree Publishing, this book shows young readers how the sun affects every aspect of life on Earth. Told in simple text, it is understandable to budding scientists as young as five, yet, with a guided reading level of "L", is appropriate for readers up to age 12. In 28 fact-filled pages, it covers everything from day and night, hot and cold, and the changing seasons, to the tilt of the planet, photosynthesis, migration, hibernation, shadows, mirrors, the color spectrum, how water can be liquid, solid, or a vapor depending on how it is heated or cooled by the sun and how the sun's energy is transmitted to every living thing on Earth through the food chain. Filled with brightly colored photographs and vivid drawings and concept titles, it is visually appealing as well. Complete with a detailed table of contents, glossary and index, this little gem is an ideal addition to elementary classroom, library, and home-school shelves. Reviewer: Pat Trattles
