    Great book!

One thing I enjoyed in this book were the elements used in it. There was magic, drama, guys, etc. All of this put together with a great story line really grabbed my attention. The story line itself is very exciting to read. I loved to get into the magic and feel everything that the characters are going through.
Another thing I like are the characters. Each character is unique and plays an important role. Shay is a great characters. She has a good head on her shoulders, thinks about everything first, figures stuff out, etc. I like how she is loyal to her friends. She is always standing up for them. Her best friends are great too. I like how they all support each other in what they do. They protect each other secrets.

The greatest about this book is the old magic in it. I like how it involved into something evil. Shay had to find out who cast the bad spirit and that was a great reading adventure to be on. I like following clues and figuring out what the motive is. It always makes me giddy.

Earth is great book filled with so much magic! Once you start reading this you will fall into it easily cause of the great storyline and characters!

    Highly Recommended!A Must Read!!

Earth pulled me right in from the beginning with its mystery and "who did it" feel. And then it kept me anxiously flipping pages till the end to find out. I kept saying no, no; please don't let it be who I think it is! But what also had me going were the three Elementals. Shayna is the leader of this threesome. She is one seriously tough girl that's going to do whatever it takes to protect her town and classmates from the evil that has come to her peaceful town of Ojai. Jodi and Steven are her two Elementals friends, helping Shayna fight the evil just as soon as they figure who it is. These two are great. Steven with his make-up kit and Jodi with her boss attitude. They are true friends in the fight against evil. Shayna is all business, so when the new boy comes to school, she doesn't make it easy for him. I felt so sorry for Jensen. No matter how hard he tried, he could never get it right with Shayna. But Shayna does like Jensen, so I'm waiting to see where their relationship goes in the next book. Jensen is awesome, he's gorgeous and a good guy. I would've liked to have seen more of him in this story, but I'm hoping he'll get more screen time in the next book. Earth has a fantastic storyline-mystery, magic, elementals, action, and kick-butt teenagers. I was glued to the pages. I highly recommend Earth as definite must read!!!

    YA Bound

This was not a good for a self pubbed book. This was a great book period. Right from the first page I lost myself in the story, and more than that, the characters. I cannot stress enough, even the writers I beta for, how important it is to write your teen characters' dialogue authentically. I spend my days listening to my son and his friends talk, and this story was like being in the same room as real life teens. The writing was clean and clear, and flowed perfectly. I didn't pause once and think a sentence could have been written better. And that's a difficult thing for me not to do lol.
I loved Shayna. She was just a straight up awesome girl. I liked that she and her friends came into the story knowing of their abilities and powers. It gave the story a deeper plot as they had to figure other things out, just not about themselves. I enjoyed the youthful voice of the novel. I laughed out loud so many times as the characters bantered. It was refreshing.
My only issue was there wasn't enough of Jensen, the lead guy. He was a cool, amazing character, and I just simply wanted him to have more 'screen' time. Although, scenes like the one of him and Shayna in the restaurant added so much depth to their relationship. The time they did spend together I felt was enhanced by him not being in every scene. And I loved the way they talked to each other. Although Shayna was very attracted to Jensen, she didn't let that rule her actions. She thought for herself and questions things about him. I liked this very much.
Overall, this was a well-crafted YA with a fresh, unique voice and wonderful characters. I could have used a smidge more romance, but the tension and the implied 'this isn't over' there at the end, is enough to make me want to suck down the next book in hopes that I get a little steamy ;) The plot was strong, and it was a great mystery. I recommend this to anyone who likes Wiccan, witchcraft, or Paranormal novels, and is looking for something with great voice and refreshingly authentic characters in YA. Awesome read!

    A good YA read

Earth by Shauna Granger tells the story of Shayna and her two friends Jodi and Steven. The three friends have some power of the basic elements with Shayna being the most powerful by far. When evidence starts to appear of someone doing some heinous black magic rituals. These rituals coincide with the arrival of a set of twin brothers to their town the friends have to figure out if they are behind the dark magic. The fact that there may be a spark between Shayna and one of the brothers adds another layer to the plot.

All three of the main characters are well developed, with a good dynamic between them. They have a very real relationship with emotional depth and humor. There is a bit of a romantic element to the story, but it didn't strike me as what has become the typical pining misery that is often found in books aimed at a similar age group. That is one of the best things about this book in my opinion. I enjoy young adult books and enjoy the genre, but it is very hard to find something that doesn't having a brooding male part and a pining female character. Very well done book and I will continue to follow this series.

    Great Read.

Book was entertaining with clear cut explaination of "powers" and how they work, tools used, etc.. Very interesting. Although there were moments in the book where the timeline was iffy... i.e. haven't seen someone since (date) wherein the afore mentioned chapter, that someone was interacted with on (date)...

This book was a pretty decent read for me. Yea there were times throughout that kind of dragged a little bit but what book doesn't at some point. The writer it seemed was really setting us up for greater things to come. Without the descriptions there would have been no book. I do wish that the overall climax would have been better but it wasn't horrible and I look forward to reading the other books in this series in the future.

Earth (Elemental Series) by Shauna Granger This review was originally
posted on Big Al's Books and Pals review blog on Tuesday, August 14,
2012. Shayna is the earth elemental, with empathic abilities, so
naturally this book mainly focuses on her. Since it is her blood the
caster wants she carries the story and is more fully developed than Jodi
or Steven. I assume they will be more fully fleshed out in their own
stories and I look forward to that. Shayna’s magic speaks to the dirt,
plants, and animals, although she can tap into the three other elements.
She also seems to be more familiar with her skills than her friends,
although her powers are growing fast. Jodi is the air elemental and is
taking advanced classes at their high school. I found Steven, who is the
fire elemental, to be the most interesting. Not only is he a confident
and secure gay teen, he is a practicing Catholic. Because of this, the
three of them incorporate religious beliefs and icons into their magic.
I liked the relationship and dialogue between these three friends and
the way they dealt with their other classmates; with as much power as
Shayna has she could have been an insufferable teenager. The author did
an excellent job laying out the details of the magic and research of the
occult the teens had to do to find a way to stop the caster and set
things right. One thing I thought the author did an excellent job with
was the descriptions of the way the magic felt and even tasted while
being cast or practiced. It really put me in the moment along with the
characters. I thought the plot had a good flow while the teens had to
also deal with the mundane of going to school and preparations for
parties that had to be attended. Teenagers are very busy people. :)
These characters are not your typical witches and I found the story
unique in that respect. I also found the potential friendship and
possible romantic interest at the end of the book intriguing. I think
this could be a very entertaining series to follow. FYI: There is
some strong teenage language; a few F-bombs are dropped. This may not be
suitable for younger teens. Format/Typo Issues: A small number of
editing errors. **Originally written for "Books and Pals"
book blog. May have received a free review copy. **

    Natural Approach to Paranormal

Shayna and her two close friends have a very special bond. They can work with the elements ti do amazing things. Shayna's particular element is earth. While they are learning to master theses forces though, someone rocks their town with dark magic and sacrifices. Shayna and her friends know they have to do something about it. As they learn more information, they realize they may be more closely tied to these events than they thought. On top of that, Shayna keeps having dreams where something is after her. They are so real that she wakes up injured. Someone is trying to tell her something, and Shayna knows she's going to have to take a risk to help other people.

This was a great book! I feel like it was a more "realistic" paranormal fiction than many. The magic was very earthy and natural. Shayna and her two friends were an awesome trio, and they were very smart. This wasn't like a horror movie where the characters are in danger because they are doing things that make no sense. Their actions and reactions were normal. That's almost a breath of fresh air. Another breath of fresh air was getting a little bit of diversity in this book. Having one of Shayna's partners in crime be a secure and confident gay teen was awesome to see. There was a fairly interesting mystery and a tiny hint of romance.

The ending was a tiny bit of a let-down for me as I wanted a little bit more closure. However, I can see why it was done this way. There is clearly room being left for the sequel, and I can't wait to read it. This book is fun, smart, and full of action. This book will appeal to people who like paranormal book and even some who don't normally like them. The more realistic nature of the plot makes everything very believable. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

BookWhisperer Review: Earth by Shauna Granger

Earth is a very fresh read that mixes a young adult romance and imaginative magical twist. While witchcraft has been a common experience in the paranormal genre; this book seems to take on a deeper understanding of their abilities and beliefs. Much of this story is detail and character building which gives the story an overall slower pace than what I have come to expect. Although, I feel that this novel laid a very strong basis for the following books to come. The potential is evident in the last eighty pages when the story began to flow and the characters were actively unraveling the mystery laid before them. This also opened the door for the romance that seemed to be missing in the beginning of this novel. The amateur talent that is so common in a first novel was lacking in Earth; creating a detail ridden story that attempts to bring readers to the characters level of knowledge. I look for the next novel to overcome is slow and steady pace bringing an action packed and thrilling ride. Earth is a very inventive and unique story that readers will appreciate, but it will offer some pace and interest obstacles that will require focus to overcome.
