This book was a fact blasting, mouth shocking, and interesting book. I am not very much interested in books about natural disasters or anything, but I learned a lot while reading through this book. When I first opened the book I thought to myself, "Oh great... this looks boring." As I read on I for sure didn't regret it. I never even knew this much about earthquakes, but after reading the book Earthquakes, it made me wonder a lot of things. I have learned so much that I haven't gotten the chance to learn in science class. For example, in the book it said "Mexican Legends thought that earthquakes were caused by the devil because they thought that he took a huge rip in the ground so that he could easily travel the earth." (pg.12) The Hindus of India believed "The world was held up by elephants, when one became tired, it shook its head." (pg.12) there is a lot more of what people believed back then before everyone knew how earthquakes started. I actually would believe it too even if it sounds crazy! This book was actually a bit on the sad side, only because people lose their lives, homes, and families. Imagine what a few second lasting earthquakes can do! Innocent lives are taken away only because of an earthquake. In 1906, San Francisco was in flames. Not only did they experience a horrible disaster, but fires broke out in more than 50 cities. This earthquake was the most deadly earthquake to strike the U.S. I really like this book, more than any other boring natural disaster book. This book was pretty interesting with all of the juicy facts of earthquakes. Like how earthquakes are created, how the earth moves, what happened after the earthquakes, (etc.) I have already learned most information in school, but some was left out. I have never thought that I would be so interested in this type of book, I really liked it. Before I have ever learned, read or anything about earthquakes, I had no idea that they were this tragic. This book helped with all of my understandings and answered all of my questions while reading. I really wish the best to all kids and adults who have experienced this horrible natural disaster. Earthquakes happen a lot, but without them the world would be so what called 'different'. I really enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too. I would recommend this book to kids who enjoy reading, and learning about earthquakes. All of the information in this book will have your thoughts twisting and wanting to read on. I don't want to spoil everything so read the book Earthquakes by Allison Lassieur and you won't regret it even if it doesn't seem like the type of book you would normally read.
