Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Karr and Richards guide readers through a jubilant Easter parade in a lively story that opens with a page of stickers, letting kids add even more animals to the action. Although many familiar Easter elements are in place, from ducks and rabbits to bonnets and candy, Karr’s sturdy rhymes avoid feeling predetermined or obvious: “High kicks, backflips, somersaults—/ What a talented crew!/ Goats-a-twirling, pigs-a-whirling,/ all dressed in bright tutus.” Richards uses a fittingly pastel palette, filling her inviting spreads with cozy details that will keep readers’ interest. Ages 35. (Jan.)
Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
The Easter Bunny dressed in a snappy purple coat with gold trim leads the Easter Parade. Other animals join in. Birds fly with strings in their beaks carrying baskets filled with colorful eggs. The squirrel band plays a springtime tune with cymbals, horns, and a bassoon. Cheerleading raccoons, hopping bunnies, and chicks with giant balloons precede the floats featuring sheep in Easter Bonnets. The well-dressed Dapper Duck Society whistles and waddles as they quack a song or two. A talented crew of goats and pigs dressed in tutus whirl, twirl, do high kicks, and somersaults. Mice carry brightly colored flags. Other animals follow in their finery. Then comes the Easter party with chocolate, eggs, jelly beans, and baskets of candy. The Easter Bunny leaves to perform his magic stunt of hiding eggs for boys and girls. The rhyming text and the lively pictures will entrance young children. A page of stickers in the front of the book enables the youngsters to participate in the story through adding their own touches. A fun one-on-one book for a child and an adult to share.
