Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
Origami is a simple art form that requires only a small piece of paper. This collection of paper animals is a twist on the traditional Asian practice. The first few pages provide basic instructions, i.e. what tools and materials will be needed and any specifics about how the directions are to be interpreted. Origami is all about folding paper in a precise sequence. Having clear directions is very important and essential to success. These directions are easy to follow with lots of lines and arrows to indicate how the paper is to be manipulated. The first model is a floppy eared dog. A butterfly can flap its wings and fly. A bunny hops to the nearest carrot patch. Other animals included are a spotted ladybug, a parakeet, a swan and a kitten. These are clever designs that are rather simple so children can do them with little assistance. Additional resources include a list of origami books and a web site. Reviewer: Kristin Harris
