Easy Breakfasts From Around the Worldby Sheila Griffin Llanas
Have you ever tried googs and soldiers? How about ful medames? If you enjoy trying new foods and learning about the countries they come from, this book is for you!
Children's Literature - Meredith KigerOne of four in the "Easy Cookbooks for Kids" series, this edition features recipes for easily prepared breakfast food from eleven countries around the world. A brief introduction discuses the universality of breakfast and the range of foods it includes. Succeeding chapters discuss cooking safety techniques, cooking tips and tricks like planning ahead and measuring correctly, defining cooking terms such as condiments and garnish, illustrating cooking tools and utensils using color photos of each, presenting the USDA MyPyramid as a nutritional guide and providing a conversion chart for measurements. The remaining eleven chapters present recipes from as many countries including Mexico, Egypt and India. Each country featured presents some brief information about that country including a small map, a brief description of the breakfast item to be prepared, utensils and ingredients needed and step-by-step instructions for preparation. The dishes are simple enough for beginning cooks with some adult supervision, as suggested. Color photos and boxed suggestions or ideas add interest. It is a nice variety with just enough "new" ingredients to interest youngsters. Suggestions for further reading and an index are included. Reviewer: Meredith Kiger, Ph.D.
