Most useful garden book so far

I like this book so much -- it provides the information I need to decide which plants to put in the ground. I am new to Texas and this book will make it possible for me to make intelligent plant choices. 'Easy Gardens for North Central Texas' has good photos and the same detailed information for each plant about its needs. It has Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon categories where it puts the easiest and next-to-easiest plants. There is even a phrase in the beginning that states this book is good for "plant killers" (that's me).

Texas gardening has been a challenge for me since the plant requirements are so different from any area I have ever lived in. I was also not familiar with the native plants and adapted plants for this area (zone 7b, west Fort Worth). With this book in hand, I can see there are many good plants that I can use and it is a joy to turn each page and see yet another great tree, bush or small plant that meets my needs for sun, shade and water. The Blue- and Red Ribbon-designated plants are also low maintenance -- some only need to be 'touched' once or twice a year.

This book has shown me that I can accomplish what I wanted for our yard: low maintenance plants, low water use, flowering trees and bushes, hardiness in the heat and cold and will work in our alkaline soils. I was practically giddy with excitement seeing the choices I had. I had no
idea I would be able to create a beautiful yard and garden and still have low water usage and maintenance.

This book presents an 'embarrassment of riches' in having page after page of beautiful plants to use in your North Central Texas landscape. It is a very useful book and I carry it with me to the nurseries and the Botanic Gardens now (one of the authors works there) to view plants.

This book will be a great addition to your library and a wonderful gift for a friend.
