After trying to find a simple reading companion for my study of the Italian language, I finally discovered this book. I cannot think of any purchase that has been more satisfying or rewarding. It is exactly as the sub-title indicates: "a three-part text for beginning students." It is appropriate for those who have become somewhat acquainted with the basics of Italian grammar and vocabulary and are ready for reading that will help to put those skills to work in something other than practice sentences, but will not overwhelm them as well. The three divisions of the book start with part one which is a series of episodes in the life of two high school students, one American and the other Italian. The second part is a series of essays on prominent historical figures, and the third is a collection of stories written by current Italian authors. The book nurses the reader through each part, beginning with simple vocabulary and rudimentary grammar, then gradually moves forward, introducing a more extensive vocabulary and grammar structure along the way. There are helpful short glossaries explaining phrases or defining words in each selection as well as a more extensive glossary at the back of the book. The essays are both entertaining and informative. Most important, they are an effective tool for a beginning student to begin to feel comfortable reading Italian.

    I Also Recommend:

    Useful and Clever

I found Easy Italian Reader to be a very enjoyable way to learn new vocabulary while following engaging story lines that increase in difficulty throughout the book. Beginning students of Italian will find this small volume very empowering because the learning is reinforced throughout making success with this beautiful language that much easier.

    Easy Reader is just that!

I have been taking Italian 101 for the past 8 months. This Easy Italian reader has been so much fun to read, and I have improved my vocabulary words at the same time. Thanks Maria
