Overview

Easy Preserving is not your grandma's home canning guide!

Full of humor and a dose of sarcasm, Easy Preserving entertains as you learn how to save your bounty.

Regardless of your level of kitchen expertise or experience with food preservation, Easy Preserving, teaches you that there's no need to spend hours in the kitchen to save the tastes of summer whether the fruits and vegetables came from your garden, the farmer's market or the grocery store.

In its lighthearted introduction, Easy Preserving describes the background of saving produce with clear (often penguin-related) examples and explanations to make you smile as you learn about the hows, whys and whats of saving your food.

Once you've perused the introduction, it's time to get to get a bushel of produce and start preserving it. Sticking with an easy-going tone that makes it fun to be in the kitchen, Easy
Preserving includes five chapters devoted to these simple food preservation methods

*Drying
*Freezing
*Freezer Jam
*Refrigerator Pickles
*Saving Winter Squash

At the start of a chapter you'll get an overview of the method's pros and cons, what produce works best, and the supplies needed. Easy Preserving follows this with a detailed look at the steps you'll take to use the method plus plenty of tips and hints to make everything easy and reliable.

At the end of each chapter, Easy Preserving provides ideas to use your well-preserved produce and tasty recipes such as Freezer Jam Marmalade, Homemade Fruit Roll Ups, Sweet Cucumber Pickles and Roasted Squash Soup.

Throughout the book, Easy Preserving emphasizes the simplicity and efficiency of its methods.

If you're just beginning to gain an interest in food preservation, this book is an excellent introduction to several time-saving techniques. If you've been using traditional canning methods for years, Easy Preserving is bound to give you new ideas of how to save your produce without spending hours in the kitchen.

Meet the Author

I worked for years in science before discovering my true passion in writing. Since taking the plunge in 2010 to quit my day job and write full time, I have had numerous articles published in local, national and international magazines including American Gardener, Herb Companion and History Magazine, as well as on various locales across the Interwebs. My areas of focus are gardening, travel and history. I have also won several awards for my essays and fiction.

In addition to Easy Preserving, I am the author of...
* The Trials of Hercules: Book One of The Osteria Chronicles
* 13th Hour: Tales from Light to Midnight
* Going Native: Small Steps to a Healthy Garden
* The My Garden Journal
* Simply Soft Cheese: Home Cheese Making Made Quick & Easy
* Soup for You

I've been coaxing vegetables out of my shady garden for years. Due to the effort required to grow my produce, I do whatever I can to save some of it for later months. With a degree in biology and 10 years of experience working in food analysis and chemistry labs, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to preserving food. However, I'm also busy (and a bit lazy) and like to find the quickest way in and out of the kitchen so I've honed the techniques described in Easy Preserving to save myself some work.
