They are written by parents of toddlers, young children, teens, and adult children; those who are in the parenting trenches now, and those looking back on their parenting experiences. Topics include : how children came to be diagnosed, the experience of dealing with problem behaviors in various contexts and settings, experiences with/feelings about treatment (therapies, medications, alternative treatments), school (and other advocacy) experiences, children's social interactions/friends, and the effect of parenting a difficult child on a parent's emotional and physical health, marriage, and other relationships.

Meet the Author

Kay Marner is a freelance writer and editor living in Ames, Iowa with her husband, Don, and their two children. Aaron, age 14, is their biological son. They adopted Natalie, now 11, from an orphanage in Russia at age 2½. Marner writes primarily about special needs parenting, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and its common comorbid conditions, learning disabilities, and adoption. Marner co-edited Easy to Love but Hard to Raise: Real Parents, Challenging Kids, True Stories (DRT Press). She contributes regularly to ADDitude magazine, the top national publication about ADHD and learning disabilities. As ADDitudeMag.com's ADHD parenting blogger, Marner writes: "My Picture-Perfect Family: A blog about parenting a loveable, exhausting child with ADHD" (www.additudemag.com/adhdblogs/4). Adrienne Ehlert Bashista is the co-editor of Easy to Love but Hard to Raise: Real Parents, Challenging Kids, True Stories, and is also the author of two picture books about Russian adoption: Mishka: An Adoption Tale, and When I Met You: A Story of Russian Adoption. She's had stories, essays, and articles published in a variety of journals, both print and on-line.

She currently writes about parenting her son, who has a variety of neurological issues that make him 'easy to love but hard to raise,' and has a personal website as well: adriennebashista.net, which hopefully pulls it all together.

A MUST HAVE for any parent living in the alphabet soup life with their child!!!

I came across the author of this book on their faccebook. I have a support group on facebook called Moms of Spirited Kids...so I am always looking for insights & encouragement for my group....I won a random drawing from author...I have read a preview copy...I laughed, I cried, I got mad, I got happy.... This collection of real life stories from other parents about their joys and hardships with their kids who have ADHD was helpful for me in understanding myself as the MOM of a child with ADHD combined. A great usable tool for our lives. An awesome way to feel connected to others out there who understand us parents.... A MUST HAVE for any parent living a life with a special needs child...God bless you on your journey...you are not alone!!!<3
