Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Hoping to inspire readers to venture out and explore the variety of ethnic foods awaiting them, Halvorsen (The Food and Cooking of China, Wiley, 1996) sets off on a trip around the globe, stopping in different regions (e.g., Latin America, East Asia) long enough to offer a brief description of the native cuisine and a sampling of recipes. Occasionally, she includes a brief interview with a U.S. chef specializing in the food of a particular country, and she inserts a sample menu from an appropriate restaurant in most chapters. A glossary of popular food words is given for some countries, and an appendix provides a directory of food purveyors. This quirky title provides a small taste of many foreign comestibles, yet readers who crave in-depth information about a particular cuisine will ultimately end up hungry for more.John Charles, Scottsdale P.L., Ariz.
