Overview

Did you truly enjoy the food you ate today? Do you really like the way you look and feel? Are you consistently enjoying great health and high energy? Bill Phillips, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Body-for-LIFE, believes your answer to all of the above questions should be, "Yes!" He feels that food should be a source of pure pleasure. A source of positive, abundant energy! A "sure thing" in a world of much uncertainty. Phillips, who's widely regarded as today's most successful fitness author, has firm beliefs which go against the grain of today's popular weight-loss methods. "Diets, all of them, are potentially dangerous, most always dumb and ultimately a dead-end street!" he insists. "Eventually, anyone and everyone who's at all concerned with their health must learn how to feed their body, not how to starve it." Instead, Phillips encourages a safe and sound solution which includes eating balanced, high-nutrient meals, frequently throughout the day. "This is what works in the long run," he explains.

Rich with common sense and science, Eating for Life has rhyme and reason. It is specific. There are very clear dos and don'ts which help people enjoy food and improve their overall fitness. Bill's approach, which he calls the "Eating for Lifestyle," has already helped thousands of people break free from the dieting dilemma and discover that, contrary to pop-culture belief, food is friend, not foe. Used intelligently, it nourishes the body and mind, satisfies the appetite, calms cravings, renews health and lifts energy. Like Bill Phillips' Body-for-LIFE, this is a tell-it-like-it-is book. There's no promise of a quick fix. No metabolic tricks or so-called miracles. Just straight-forward, clear, concise, practical and appropriate principles for eating right... for life.

    Life-Changing

I have never been one to diet, so this book's practical advice is what attracted me to it. There's no calorie counting, or 'dieting'. You get one free day. I've lost 7lbs. in my first month just by realizing that my portions were way too big.

We cook out of this every day. One word of caution: if you have kidney troubles, and are not lifting weights, watch out for the protein intake. This is a very protein-heavy lifestyle, which is ideal if you are also following his Body for Life guidelines. Since I do cardio 3 times a week, and light lifting I reserved the whey protein smoothies to when I actually lifted, and substitute vegetables out for some of the protein portions, and have done well so far.

The recipes are very well laid out, and are good for beginning cooks. I've always believed that you cannot adhere to a healthy lifestyle if you refuse to cook. He makes the meals easy enough for even the most novice of cooks. And for more advanced cooks - there's no excuse to not eat out of this book. The ingredients are readily available, inexpensive, and the meals take no time at all to make.

I hope he comes out with another one soon with additional recipes.

    Whole meals

The food is delicious with a variety of difficulty, however, many are very easy. BUT, the number one thing about this book is that each single recipe is a whole meal - you don't have to pick and choose among different sections...main course, veggie, etc. This is my favorite cookbook and it is definitely worth checking out.

This book helped me regain control of my life

This is a great book on how to eat healthy, but Mr. Phillips also recognizes that we are human and not perfect. By following his recommendations on planning the day ahead of time I have completely changed my eating and work habits. I really do have more free time. I also can look forward to a 'free day' which keeps me on track. My wife and I have been following the plan for two weeks and have really enjoyed the recipes from the book. As a companion to his Body-For-Life book I am already noticing changes in my 43-year old physique.

    Delicious, good for you food!
I bought this book to help me plan my Body for Life challenge I am starting in a few days. It is AMAZING. They have a free grocery list print out that has all the ingredients you would possibly need for any of the recipes, and they are easy to find, and not incredibly expensive. The recipes are things I can actually see myself cooking, and my family enjoying. I just made the chicken enchiladas tonight, and they were super easy, and tasted delicious, and were very filling. I am excited to start my challenge, and this book will greatly help. I recommend it for any busy family looking to eat healthier.

This book changed my husbands life...and mine.

I bought this book many years ago, and the recipes are fantastic....I've made most of the recipes in that time. But...we never really followed the plan until recently when my husband decided he was tired of carrying around all his extra weight and started following the program. 65 pounds later he is doing phenomenal...and just by cooking for him I lost 22 pounds. There are no gimmicks here....just healthy eating, but the food tastes fantastic! You will NOT feel like you are on a diet. 1 day a week you are allowed a free day where you can eat whatever you want...yet we still eat the recipes in this book because they are sooo good!

If i could only have one cookbook!

My favorite cookbook for years now. I buy copies for friends and my grown children. this cookbook has easy to prepare everyday meals. Each recipe shows pictures of the foods used to make that particular meal. The recipes are very tasty and some recipes like "Dads green chili" and Moms chicken enchiladas are excellent homemade dishes that are healthy and low in calories. These breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack recipes are a great way to eat for life!

    I Also Recommend:

Great Read & Very Useful Recipes

I bought this book after reading an article about Bill P. in a fitness magazine. Included in the article was his Baked Chicken Parmigiana recipe. After trying the recipe in the magazine, I went out & bought the book! Even now, 6 years later, I still find this book useful. The recipes are practical & very healthful. Definitely a worthwhile investment.

    A reviewer

This is a great book..I use this book to cook for my family often. We enjoy the meals and I love how quick the meal can be ready. Most recipes use ingredients that I have already, I don't have to run to the store with a long list of things I may use only once. This book uses the resouces in your pantry, I love that.

Great Recipes with every day food!

I've made a lot of recipes from this book. They are very tasty and the family just loves them! The best thing is that a lot of the ingedients are ones that are used every day nothing too fancy! There are several more that we want to try. My all-time favorite is the Chicken Parmesan, very easy to make. Lots of good color photographs, easy instructions and most recipes do not take a lot of time to prepare. Following the Eating for Life plan is very easy to follow. With following Bill's plan I have tremendous energy. This is my fourth week of Eating for Life! If you were to buy only one cookbook, make it this one definitely worth the money.

Takes the 'Die' out of dieting

I've read all of this authors books and this is the best yet. Simple recipies that yield spectacular meals. I've used three recipies so far and each one is better than the one before. Anyone who is on the Body for Life plan will know this book has been a long time coming. The wait is over! The various guides in the book are alone worth the price.

This book guides you with common sense...

Not everything in life is fixed by a pill, a powder, or an ab machine that you see on an infomercial. Bill Philips teaches us through this book, and Body for Life, that you can gain back your self esteem, your energy, and your body with some common sense, healthy recipes, self-discipline and hard work. Most of the recipes are good, some not so much. But the lesson is this: by changing your eating habits, eating less per meal and more often, you have the power to bring yourself out of whatever rut you find yourself in. Good luck.

    Healthy food... healthy body

Bill Phillips writes with a feeling of passion and excitement that motivates us to do more for ourselves. With recipes that are easy to make and ingredients that can easily be purchased in any store, the book teaches us the things we need to get started on a life of enjoying good healthy food. Another good book - 'The Power of Positive Habits' - also gives serious information on how to improve our health automatically... highly recommended!

    Sticking to it???

Eating for life' starts with the belief that food is friend, not foe. This is the appropriate attitude towards food. As the book explains, food is necessary - it nourishes the body and mind, satisfies the appetite, calms cravings, renews health and lifts energy. The book also points out that there are no quick fixes, no metabolic tricks or miracles. The book provides straightforward, clear, concise, practical and appropriate principles for eating right. This book is a wealth of great information. What I would like to see more of in this book is practical advice on sticking to these principles of healthy eating. My fitness trainer gave me a book entitled 'The Power of Habit.' It provides an easy-to-implement, step-by-step process for making healthy eating a permanent, automatic habit. It teaches you how to take these principles for healthy eating and make them part of your lifestyle. 'Eating for life' provides 'what to do' and 'why', 'The Power of Habit' gives you a way to 'stick to it'. I agree with one of the previous reviews: 'Philips' plan requires discipline and hard work.' Any good, healthy diet does. What the book could use more of is advice on how to stick to it.

    Great book . . . Great man.

As a busy mom of four I've struggled with finding the right solution for a lifetime style of eating and exercise that would give me energy, strength, and a body I was happy with. Bill Phillips with Body-for-LIFE and Eating for Life provided exactly the right answer. He provides simple, real-life solutions that you CAN use for life. I¿ve been using his systems for almost two years and I now fit into my 16-year-old daughter¿s jeans. Plus I have abundant energy to chase my 4-year-old all day. My husband is using Phillip's programs to gain a level of strength and fitness he hasn't seen since college. Phillip's eating plan doesn¿t require using any supplements -- you can do it all with real food -- but I¿ve found his products handy, delicious and a good source of fast nutrition. Bill Phillips is a great man who donates huge sums to support Make-A-Wish Foundation (he¿s listed on their website) and the Angel Giving Tree. Bless him and his life-changing ideas for fitness. ¿ Elizabeth Pantley, Author of The No-Cry Sleep Solution, Gentle Baby Care and Kid Cooperation.
