Eccentric Lady (A Lacey Summers P I Novel) by Edna Curry Lacey Summers is a PI. Her client Patti hires her to find her missing Aunt Agnes. She turns up dead, and Patti begins to date Agnes' lawyer. Although Lacey's fiance Paul wants her to drop the case, along with the local police she continues to investigate. A fast paced cozy murder mystery. Lacey is very likable. The story line was interesting and filled with secrets, twist, and turns. I feel those who like murder/mystery will enjoy Eccentric Lady.
Agnes Simms was a reclusive miser or a loving, generous aunt, depending on whom you ask. When Agnes goes missing her niece Patti is worried sick and hires smart, capable private investigator Lacey Summers to help find her aunt when the Sheriff dismisses her concerns. When Agnes is found dead the Sheriff zeros in on Patti as a prime suspect. Lacey wonders if Patti’s concern for her aunt is genuine or just greed. As the plot thickens Lacey is warned to drop the case by the Sheriff and her fiancé. But Lacey does not back down even after anonymous threats appear in her inbox and on her doorstep. The dead woman’s family and associates provide plenty of suspects as Lacey learns the late Agnes Simms had more money than anyone realized and had recently found evidence that her father’s death may have been murder. As Lacey gets closer to the truth the threats against her increase. Eccentric Lady is a fast read that will keep you hooked from the first page. Whether she is sparring with the Sheriff’s Department or savoring a rare evening with her fiancé Paul, Lacey is a smart, fun heroine. The interaction between Lacey, the suspects and the colorful residents of their small town added a lot to the story and kept me guessing until the end.
