Overview

Known for its conversational style, Barbara Aehlert’s ECGs Made Easy offers clear explanations and plenty of practice exercises that make it easier than ever to understand and interpret basic dysrhythmias. Each ECG rhythm includes a sample rhythm strip and a discussion of possible patient symptoms and general treatment guidelines. Student-friendly features include ECG Pearl boxes with insights based on real-world experience, and Drug Pearl boxes highlighting medications used to treat dysrhythmias. This package includes a handy pocket reference for on-the-go access to the most essential information, plus a plastic heart rate calculator ruler for fast interpretation of rhythms.

Clear ECG discussions highlight what students need to know about ECG mechanisms, rhythms, and heart blocks: How Do I Recognize It? What Causes It? What Do I Do About It?
Chapter objectives and key terms focus students on the most important information.
ECG Pearl boxes give useful hints for interpreting ECGs, such as the importance of the escape pacemaker.
Drug Pearl boxes highlight various medications used to treat dysrhythmias.
Introduction to the 12-Lead ECG chapter provides all the basics for this advanced skill, including determining electrical axis, ECG changes associated with myocardial ischemia and infarction, bundle branch block, and other conditions.
A comprehensive post-test is included at the end of the book to evaluate student comprehension.
A heart rate calculator ruler is included with each textbook, so students can measure heart rates while practicing ECG recognition.

A new two-column design adds visual appeal and makes content easier to read.
49 new anatomical drawings and 51 new skills photos are included, for a total of almost 400 illustrations— all in full color.
Eight new illustrated, step-by-step skills include easy-to-follow instructions for performing basic techniques.
Stop and Review chapter quizzes are expanded to include 200 practice ECG tracings, and now include answers at the end of each chapter.
Learning objectives are added within text content to emphasize key points.
An expanded companion CD includes ECG video clips and 100 more ECG strips with interpretation on PowerPoint— for a total of 250 practice strips.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Polly A Royal, DNP, RN-BC(Purdue University School of Nursing)
Description: This book is designed for healthcare professionals in acute care areas who want to master basic ECG interpretation. Each chapter provides a "Stop & Review" assessment and multiple strips for practice interpretation. An extensive post-test using a variety of assessments is also included. The Pocket Reference for ECGs Made Easy provides a quick bedside reference.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide the essential information needed to interpret ECGs, understand the significance of a variety of rhythms, identify symptoms associated with different rhythms, and treat rhythms as needed.
Audience: The intended audience is students in paramedic, nursing, and medical schools as well as allied healthcare providers and monitor technicians. This is an appropriate resource for teaching in small interactive seminars. The author's clinical experience provides valuable insight into practical ECG interpretation.
Features: The book begins with anatomy and physiology, basic electrophysiology, and sinus mechanisms. It then progresses to discuss atrial, junctional, and ventricular rhythms. Atrioventricular blocks and the use of pacemakers are discussed. Unfortunately, the use of pacemakers to improve cardiac output in heart failure is not discussed. The book concludes with an introduction to 12-lead ECG and an extensive post-test.
Assessment: This is a great book for interactive learning of ECG interpretation.

A MUST HAVE for any medical practitioner

I use this book exclusively to teach ECG classes. The book is easy to understand and very user friendly. It is not over simplified as some of the others that sell by being cute!I love the color ECG examples and assign practice and homework straight from the book. There is also a study card book that is very helpful for the beginner.

    Great resource!

I've read the first two editions and bought the third. The latest version is much easier to understand and better illustrated than the previous editions. A great addition to my library.

    A Good Resource Book

ECG's made easy is a good resource for anyone who is learning heart rhythms. Its concise, simple to read and helps you gain a deeper understanding of how the heart functions. I recommend it for EKG Techs to keep as a go to book.

    Ecgs made confusing

If your looking for a book with simple terminology and definitions this is not the book. The author makes it very difficult for someone who is now entering the medical field who is studying ecgs to follow and understand. The CD rom is a waste of time. It is very impersonal and not useful. I have yet to find what the study cards look like. Many places do not have it or even heard of it. The author Aehlert should have given a student study review guide book to accompany the text. The only positive part from this purchase is the pictures. The pictures are labeled, illustrated and photographed well.
