Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Dane's latest romantic thriller is light on romance and characterization but heavy on thrills. Darkly mysterious Jackson Kincaid robs drug mules and gun-running thugs on the high seas, donating most of the proceeds to a Catholic school in Haiti. His Robin Hood efforts anger a gang of terrorists who kidnap Sister Mary Katherine, the school's startlingly flirtatious principal, along with a dozen or so children and adults in a raid on a party honoring Kincaid's generosity. Outnumbered and wounded, he calls for backup and gets a crackerjack rescue unit headed by Alexa Marlowe, whose longtime lust for Kincaid is undiminished. Dane (The Wrong Side of Dead) piles on suspense, adrenaline, and a cacophony of contrived emotions as the action moves to the remote mountains of Cuba, where tension builds at the expense of character development. Red Hot

A red-hot mixture of fiery characters and volatile conflicts are an easy indicator of Dane's continued success as she introduces the world to the third installment of her Sweet Justice series, "The Echo of Violence". Circling storylines and hints of hidden agendas keep a remarkable pace with fascinating and heart-breaking results. As the layers of secrets are carefully peeled away, each smartly crafted character becomes more than words on a page.

Jackson Kinkaid is a broken and private man with a long list of skeletons in his closet that he keeps closely guarded. Kincaid recognizes one gentle soul as his salvation in life and when her life is threatened-at the hands of terrorists-he will stop at nothing to save her, even if it means allowing a painful aspect of his past to resurface. With limited options, Kincaid is going to have to place his safety and trust in the hands of people he hasn't worked with in much too long.

Facing the paralyzing fear of failure-and fighting a gunshot wound and raging infection-Kincaid leans on agent Alexa Marlowe, his counterpart in this impossible rescue mission as the game takes an even more dangerous turn. No longer is this less than simple extraction about saving one life, but now has deadly consequences for many.

Small victories pepper this well-written thriller, but don't be fooled by what initially appears to be a 'cookie-cutter' ending. "The Echo of Violence" isn't quite so predictable.

    more from this reviewer

This is an enjoyable thriller that grips readers from the opening sequence and never slows down

beleaguered orphans of Haiti. Sister Kate and others recognizes his bigheartedness and throw a reception honoring him though he feels this is unnecessary, he shows up because of his love for the kids.

Terrorists attack the gala killing innocent people, kidnapping Sister Kate and the children, and making one mistake. They only wound Kinkaid failing to kill him. They post videos of the lethal assault on the web. Kinkaid asks Garrett Wheeler and the Sentinels to help him save the lives of those that were kidnapped. Garrett dispatches Kinkaid's former lover Alexa Marlowe and her Sentinel unit to work with him on the rescue and to capture the terrorist leader alive something she doubts the mercenary will allow.

This is an enjoyable thriller that grips readers from the opening sequence and never slows down. Angst-laden Kinkaid owns the tale as he deals with overwhelming issues with all the sh*t he has seen and done. Readers will root for him while pondering if he suffers from PTSD and hope he and the Sentinels rescue Sister Kate and the children while also wondering whether Kinkaid will allow the terrorist leader to be captured as Marlowe's boss wants.
