Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Donna Brumby
This slim volume contains nine profiles of women who have served as pioneers in the field of ecology and environmental awareness. Those included range from the famous (Rachel Carson and Jane Goodall) to the less well known (Wangari Maathai and Barbara Kerr). The book is unapologetically pro-environment. Careful reading reveals a subtle bias against opinions or theories other than those of the heroes described, but the overall credibility of the work is not compromised. The articles will probably be helpful for school assignments, but the writing style (continuous, short, simple sentences) becomes tiresome for pleasure reading. It is nicely illustrated with photographs of the women discussed.
