Aussi le Sage qui a apprehende le Principe dans son essence, est capable d'harmoniser ses souffles et, a travers la regulation de ses organes internes et du principe vital, d'assurer l'ordre dans l'Etat. Profondement influence par le Livre de la Voie et de la Vertu dont il se veut une sorte de commentaire, mais un commentaire qui en fournirait les applications pratiques, le Wenzi reprend les notions de vide, de non-agir, d'unicite, et fait sien le postulat de la preeminence du Non-etre sur l'Etre pour leur conferer un tour nettement politique et tenter de fournir une assise metaphysique, voire ontologique a l'empire centralise et unifie en train de se mettre en place. Non seulement le Wenzi reprend les themes du Laozi, mais encore il en adopte le rythme et le vocabulaire, notamment les accents inspires et mystiques. En meme temps, il ne laisse pas d'inquieter, des lors que l'on garde a l'esprit qu'il s'agit de justifier par le fonctionnement naturel des choses un ordre qui n'a rien de naturel et serait plutot totalitaire. Il demeure en tout cas un document precieux et irremplacable pour comprendre, de l'interieur, le fonctionnement du regime imperial et retracer les etapes de l'elaboration de sa justification ideologique.
