Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Adult/High School-A collection of adaptations of 13 of Poe's poems and short stories. Many favorites are included, such as "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Raven," and "The Fall of the House of Usher"; some less-well-known works also make an appearance. The short stories are usually either abridged or paraphrased; "Hop Frog" and "The Black Cat" stand as exceptions, presented in their entirety with a few smart illustrations occasionally breaking the text. While no adaptation will ever completely do justice to Poe's genius, his original words are handled carefully and with due respect. However, where this edition of Graphic Classics succeeds most brilliantly is in its renditions of Poe's poems, which remain untouched yet are sumptuously and often lavishly decorated. Of particular note is Rafael Nieves and Juan Gomez's "The Bells." From J. B. Bonivert's psychedelic interpretation of "The Raven" to John Coulthart's gothic plates in "The Haunted Palace," each retelling opens new and engaging perspectives into Poe's masterpieces. The potential that this book has to draw comics readers, reluctant or otherwise, into the world of classic literature is enough to make it a worthwhile purchase; the quality of the art and storytelling makes it a noteworthy addition to any collection.-J. M. Poole, East Rochester Public Library, NY Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

This is an awesome collection to have in one's own library.

Everyone should own Poe works, along with Ohio Blue Tips by Jeanne E. Clark, The Photos In The Closet by Daniel E. Lopez, and works by Alison Townsend.

    A Menacing Pleasure

Edgar Allan Poe always clasps my tongue as his words still haunt my dreams. As master at macabre, being the age of 13, I wish to become as melodramatic a writer he will always be known. He is who all horror and suspense writers' ambition to be. Inspirational.

    Poe is unsurpassed

His writing is classic and so pure that it is difficult for many to truly grasp and comprehend. It is deep and very emotional. Amazing. I gave one as a gift to a Junior High girl and she screamed with joy when she saw it. The significance of his writing cannot be overstated.

As usual with B&N the book never arrived or is late, unlike Amazon.

I ordered the book well over a month ago and never got it. Your shipping
performance to overseas (B&N and market sellers) is very poor compared to AMAZON. Get the book over or give me the money back!
    As for the book,
I know Poe and I'm sure the contents are excellent. I cannot say anything about the quality of the book, never having seen it. All the books I have ordered from Amazon at the same date arrived long ago

    Delightfully morbid

I neven was much for Poe's stories, but the poems really creep me out. The things in them follow me through dreams (and most things don't do that) and conciousness. They make me shiver. That's why I love them.

A true master at his craft

Edgar Allan Poe was a master at macabre. He is whom all horror/suspense writers today hope to be, myself included.
