Overview

A tragic childhood left Ellie Coulter with a supernatural gift that tells her a person’s true intentions. But even that didn’t protect her from a cheating husband with his own self-destructive secrets. After finding the strength to leave, she retreats from the world to heal.

She’s drawn out of her protective shell when a friend insists on playing matchmaker. After some persistent coaxing, Ellie warms to the idea that she may have found a reason to let her walls down, and his name is David Mitchell.

With things looking up in the romance department, Ellie finds herself the caretaker of the Bradford mansion, an impressive home that is also rumored to be haunted. Curious about what happened to the mansion’s former owners, Ellie finds herself entangled in the events that happened over a hundred years ago.

It’s all part of the trap set by the one hiding in the shadows, and Ellie fell right into it.

Meet the Author

Everyone loves a good origin tale. Cege's started when she was eight years old. She snuck out of bed late one night and into the living room to watch TV. Flipping through stations with the volume turned down low, she came across a rerun of a movie called The Exorcist. She was terrified yet mesmerized. Cege wasn't unfamiliar with the idea of the battle between good and evil. She attended Catholic school in a small town in rural Wisconsin, and at the time knew the 'age appropriate' stories from the Bible. Nothing in those stories prepared her for the visual onslaught of watching the battle between the priests and the demon for the soul of the young Linda Blair. Cege was deeply disturbed by the movie, but nonetheless a seed was planted that night. That seed grew into a rampant fascination with all things supernatural. Sleepovers turned into B-rated horror film marathons. Her library card was used to bring home piles of books about ghosts and vampires. She still isn't quite sure who she loved first, Stephen King or Freddy Krueger. By the time she was twelve, Cege took a turn at penning her own spooky tales. That love of things that go bump in the night and scare you to death has only grown stronger throughout the years. The paranormal and supernatural take center stage in all of Cege's stories. Over the years, she has crafted her own origin stories about vampires (the Bloodtruth series), zombies (the Twisted Souls series), and ghosts, angels, and demons (the Shadows series). She's also taken on the folklore around the Fountain of Youth (the Immortal End series beginning with Ageless). There is something for every reader of the paranormal in Cege's books.

This was a very strange book. I read it to the end because I felt I had to just to see if it ended up making sense. I'm still not sure if I liked it or not.

Spoiler.....soul sucking ghosts and a deal with the devil. I wasnt fond of how the characters kept being put to sleep or how they couldnt remember things. The story was going good until the last 50+ pages and kinda tanked from there :-( glad it was free.

I was surprised at how well this book kept my interest! It was a mix of mystery and paranormal. The biggest complaint I have is that nothing was really explained. I'm still confused about what happened in the book. I know that there is a second book that might explain it. However, I am leery about purchasing it because it still might not explain it....

worth reading... Total Pages: 593...Story Pages: 570...Free e-book What an odd book. Talk about being kept in suspense; the entire story kept me in suspense until the end. Psychically-gifted people (aura readers, seeing the dead/mediums), a 'haunted' house, missing people (from 100 years in the past), love, etc. This book had a lot going for it. Mystery, suspense, romance, ghosts/hauntings, psychics, and possibly demons or at least an evil being (the book doesn't really tell what the being is). This is supposedly only the first book in a series.

The book was okay, but not great. It's not something I would pick up a second time, and I'm not compelled to purchase the sequel.

Great bang for the buck, I can not wait to read the next one to see what happens and hopefully get answers to all my questions. Good ending, but definately not over. I dont usually dig ghost stories but this was just the right amount of creepy and suspense. There were only a couple of spots I felt were too repetitious or corny and read quickly to carry on with the story. Good read.

I really enjoyed this book because the author kept me guessing, kept me engaged and did an excellent job with the story. I liked the different take the author chose for her subject matter because it's not a "standard" ghost story. Once in a blue moon you'll run across the best movie or book about a certain genre and this one did that for me. I'll definitely be watching to see what else this talented author has coming out. Oh, and yes, I will pick up the other two books in the series. I'd easily recommend the book to anyone who wants a great story and a bit of horror. Kudos to Ms. Smith!

It always frustrates me when i can tell something the charactes cant then when they figure it out its too late. However, with this story and its plot is just amazing! It has so many twists i just got absorbed. Loved it.

What the cover promises the story delivers. This book was filled to the brim with suspense and mystery. The characters were well formatted, and was brought to life with the depth the author describes. The Pace was nice, and the plot was well formed. The ending was a little creepy but set it up nicely for a squeal. It'll leave you salivating for the next. This is a great Paranormal Romance for readers who are looking for a little more. - Were Vamps Romance Reviews

Meh... got confusing towards the end; I'm under the impression to have caught many grammar errors too. The story entertains up to a certain point then it looses traction. I did not truly enjoy but I read it through the end.

I rated this book low for a couple of different reasons. The first reason is a common mistake I see in a lot of these books - the leading male character has a "chiseled chin with a dimple" blah blah blah. I am so tired of this "mousey woman meets hunky professional man who immediately falls in love with her" trope in cozies. Add in the cliched descriptions of the man and the interactions between the two, and it just ruins the whole book. Secondly, the plot started out somewhat interestingly, with a few glaring issues. The protagonist is annoying unperceptive, and takes most everyone and everything at face value (if she can't see their auras, but of course she doesn't puzzle too long over what is a vital clue in the story!). When the plot speeds up towards the end of the book, it gets sillier and sillier, makes very little sense (I can't say more without giving away the plot), and the ending was so disappointing it kind of made me angry. It's as if the author took several different horror cliches and threw them all together at the end. Far from being a cliff-hanger, the ending just made me vow not to read any more books in this series. I didn't get the impression the plot was well-thought-out at all. I cannot recommend this book.
