About the Author

Dr. Kanchan Roy (b. 1952) is presently a lecturer in anthropology at the Postgraduate Department, Ranchi University, Ranchi. After obtaining M.Sc. in Anthropology from Ranchi University, he underwent specialized training in M.Sc. Biological Anthropology from University of Durham (England). In 1981, he received his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Ranchi University. He also holds LL.B. degree of Ranchi University as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from Institute of Modern Management, Calcutta. Besides several research papers to his credit, he had been jointly associated with conducting various research projects with Late (Prof.) L.P.Vidyarthi and other colleagues. Most of his anthropological research works/investigations are related to the Tribite of Bastar (M.R), Chotanagpur, Santhal Parganas (Bihar) and Muslims of Ranchi. He has attended several national and international conferences and is also the Assistant Editor of the premier anthropological journal ‘Man in India'.
