Review:Effie at the wedding by tracy Marchini
4 STARS
This is a very short story. Deals with Effie at her big sister's wedding.
I can see this story could be real. Effie is always counting down 3 reasons why or why not how she feels about something.
Like what she does like about the groom and three reasons she is not happy her sister is getting married.
She is dealing with some real issues. How she feels about her weight how her mom feels about her weight.
I would read more of Tracy's work. it is easy to follow, seams real, clean now swearing or sex scenes. I wash given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Librarythings.
Tracy Marchini's delightful book, Effie at the Wedding, describes the conflicting emotions of a bride's little sister, eager to be grown up, preferring to be invisible and independent, and unhappy to be losing her best friend. The story's told in first-person and Effie has a wonderful way of clarifying her thoughts through lists. Some of those lists had me laughing out loud as I read, and I'm sure would be just as amusing, if not more so, to a middle-grade or young-adult reader.
Sometimes I wasn't quite sure how old Effie seemed, not quite child, not quite young adult, but I suspect my confusion might be born of my only having sons. Whatever her age, her misery in the hideous pink dress is delightfully palpable, and her lists are hilarious. Not entirely self-centered, and occasionally achingly perceptive, Effie adds drama to horror and gets locked in a bathroom. But perhaps she'd rather stay there. except she'll miss the cake.
The story moves along at the just the right speed. Story-telling interspersed with lists makes for a pleasing look on the page to entice readers. And the voice is delightful. The ending's delightful too, sweet without saccharine and a really enjoyable read.
Disclosure: The author kindly gave me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Effie At The Wedding Tracy Marchini Available at Amazon Young Adult Short Story 5 Stars In this humorous short story we find Effie coming up with all these reason not to be in her sister's wedding and why she should not be getting married. For starters that bridesmaid dress is going to make her look like somebody spilled a big bottle of Pepto -Bismol. She is wrong in marring a doctor, he's older than she is, doctors don't have time for their families and just who is she going to double date with now. After all her sister has taught her things over the years, and now she won't be there. Effie is the younger teenage sister, a little over weight and not the pretty one of the family. Like most teens she is mixed up about life and feels nobody likes her, but after an episode in the ladies room she finds her big sister is there for her and will not forget about her once she is married. Will Effie finally accept the fact that her sister is grown and ready to leave the nest. Recommended for all teens and Young Adult and even us older folks will get a kick out the book.

Effie's a normal teenage girl, with confusing feelings and the thought that the whole world is against her. Good thing her sister's there for her, and Effie finally finds her reason to be happy.
It was a great read, and I'd recommend it more for teens/tweens. Definitely a book you'd want to get your hands on. Is it too much to ask if I said I wanted another short story with Effie?
Overview
Effie has a million reasons why she's not thrilled to be at her sister's wedding -- and the monstrously pink bridesmaid's dress isn't even on the list. When Effie finds herself locked in the bathroom, she thinks she might just stay there. After all, it's better than hearing from her mom about how often she's been to the buffet or how beautiful Ophelia looks in her wedding dress. In this hysterical young adult ...
