Meet the Author

Buzzy Jackson is the author of the novel "Effie Perine" as well as the nonfiction books "Shaking the Family Tree: Blue Bloods, Black Sheep, and other Obsessions of an Accidental Genealogist" (Simon & Schuster, 2010) and "A Bad Woman Feeling Good: Blues and the Women Who Sing Them" (W.W. Norton: 2005). 


Buzzy is a Correspondent for the Boston Globe, where she reviews books for Sunday Books section. She also writes for BookForum and other outlets. She earned a Ph.D. in U.S. History from UC Berkeley and her writing has been honored by PEN-West and the American Library Association.


Buzzy was raised in Truckee, California and in Montana but since then she's lived in Los Angeles, New York City, Barcelona (Spain), San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and Perth (Australia). She now lives in Boulder, Colorado with her family, where she is a Research Affiliate at the University of Colorado-Boulder's Center of the American West.
