Third time is definitely the charm

Julie Hyzy's first two White House Chef mysteries introduced Ollie Paras, an independent woman who, while handling the demands of daily meals for the First Family and state occasions for hundreds, manages to get herself entangled in espionage, murder and mayhem. In the third of the series, Ollie not only has to deal with the death of one of the guests at a White House dinner(Was he poisoned;were the kitchen personnel responsible? Did Ollie do it?)but the complications of the arrival of her mother and grandmother for a long anticipated visit. Ms. Hyzy digs deeper into the workings of not only the White House but also Ollie's ongoing romance and her mother's unexpected one while never really letting go of the tension that comes with murder and its aftermath. Ollie is one amateur sleuth I'd love to have in my corner. (And the recipes are great as well--an added bonus)

    Just keeps getting better

Ollie Parras is waken early by a call from the White House, telling her that there is a car waiting outside her apartment building to bring her in and she was instructed not to speak with anyone. Not knowing what was going on as she exited the building in the company of two large Secret Service Agents, Ollie is startled by the news that one of the White House dinner guests of the night before has died.

This was just the start of Ollie's problems - her mother and grandmother were coming to visit and she was supposed to pick them up at the airport but being held for questioning and having forgotten her cell phone, there was no way to contact them and no way of knowing when she would be able to get away to meet them.

Things just seem to get worse when the ent8ire WH kitchen staff is sent home with instructs to stay away until the cause of death is determined and they are cleared. How are they supposed to prepare for the annual Easter Egg Roll without the use of the WH kitchen?

Luckily Tom went and picked up Ollie's but the issues at the WH put a strain on their relationship. Time off is used creatively and Ollie and her family work together to resolve the issues.

It was wonderful to finally meet members of Ollie's family and get to know some of her staff and neighbors better. I really enjoyed this cozy

Love this series! Can't wait for #7.

Having lived so close to the White House for 62 years and having toured it on a number of occasions, but never the White House kitchen, I was very interested in this series. I ordered all 6 of the books available and am now on #3. This is a great series. Not only do you have the mystery, you get to hear about the different rooms of the White House, including some of the First Family rooms, and the sights and sounds of the areas surrounding the White House. I can't wait until #7 comes out.

In the first two books in the series I came to like Ollie Paras

In the first two books in the series I came to like Ollie Paras very much and now I really love her and the scrapes she gets into. A top level NSA official dies at the White House while having dinner prepared by Ollie- she is under question and so is her staff. This is the absolute best in the series so far. We meet the characters from the first two books and also some new characters . Ollie mother and grandmother are great additions to the story when they are in Washington for a visit. We also meet others new people who I hope will be regulars. This one had twists and turns and end up with a great surprise.

"Alright, I'll be your ally." (Girl with 158% accurate knife-throwing and all). I say. "I'm from District 2." I pull out my sword. "I'm low on food, but I know where we can get more. The sharks in the Shark River are edible, and I got some berries from the lake." I explain.

I really like this series. This one was fun we got to meet Ollie

I really like this series. This one was fun we got to meet Ollie's Mom and Nana, and guess who comes back. No you have to wait and read it to find out. Very good mystery.
This mystery took place right before Easter. I didn’t (and still don’t really because I haven’t googled it) know they did an Easter egg hunt and activities with children at the White House. Have you ever heard of this?
Well Ollie is kicked out of the White House kitchen and she needs to get the eggs ready for the hunt that is in a few days. Of course, will they still let her use them? And where can she prepare them? This is when you get to meet Bucky in a whole different way. I enjoyed knowing more about him and his personal life. Ollie and Bucky are pretty much at odds in the other books leading up to this, and not that it changes, but it’s fun to see the personal side of Bucky.
Verdict: Another great book in the series.

    A Good Read!

This is th 4th in the series. I have read the earlier 3 books. They make a good series with continuing characters, interesting plots, and the White House/WH kitchen are a unique site for mysteries. I enjoyed these very much and will continue to read succeeding books in the series.

The third installment will not disappoint readers of this series. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to Ollie's next adventure, which I believe will be out in January 2011.
