Gr 1-2-Through short sentences and full-color photos, these books each feature three children and their families from different parts of their country going about their daily lives. Each title has a "Fact File" that includes a picture of the flag and money and a map with the outlines of the country and dots indicating where the children live. A tiny inset map shows the country in relation to the world. The books have little real information, the glossaries are for the most part repetitive and superfluous, and there are no pronunciation guides. The format in each book is pretty much the same, with washed-out colors in many of the photos. All this adds up to average offerings, whose main assets are the children and their families that lend immediacy to the facts.-Judith Constantinides, formerly at East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library, LA Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
