Overview

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Mateo Coln, an anatomist of the Renaissance period, falls in love with Mona Sofia, a Venetian prostitute. Searching to find a potion that will induce her to fall in love with him, he embarks on an exploration of the mysterious nature of women. In an act of daring, he starts experimenting with prostitutes and, something totally prohibited at the time, dissecting dead bodies. He thereby discovers the clitoris, a part of the anatomy until then unknown. However, before making his discovery public he must face the powers of the Inquisition. In the end, he is blacklisted and must find refuge with his beloved Mona Sofia. This lyrically written work, which is based on fact, received the prestigious Fortabat Award for the best Argentinean novel of the year. Recommended for public libraries. [The English-language version will be released by Doubleday in June. Ed.] Jorge Gonzalez

    Alluring and Enticing!!!

I you enjoy historical novels, this is the way to go, it is sensual, very provocative and can be a bit morbid, but that is what is appealing in this piece of work.
