A little girl revealing secrets as only a child can; a witch flies at dawn over a small townthese are just two of the scenarios presented by Cisneros in this collection of short stories. A writer of vivid imagination, with a very acute sense of mysticism and a witty poetic style, Cisneros not only entertains but leaves a lasting impression. A key work from a major Hispanic American writer; recommended for public libraries.Jose M. Fornes

The other people who reviewed this book are nuts! It's a collection of short stories. They obviously do not live anywhere close to the Southwest. It is a wonderful book -- both the English and Spanish versions. If you are at all familiar with the life experiences of Mexican Americans, and perhaps more specifically those who live in Texas, then you will LOVE this book!

I found this book to be extremely confusing and difficult to follow. There did not really seem to be any underlying themes at all. The stories did not flow together and I just found it confusing. The book was entertaining; however, it just did not make any sence as to why the stories were put together the way that they were. On the other hand I may have just interpreted the book incorrectly.
