Meet the Author

Tirso de Molina (Madrid, 1583-Almaz�n, Soria, 1648). Espa�a. Se dice que era hijo bastardo del duque de Osuna, pero otros lo niegan. Se sabe poco de su vida hasta su ingreso como novicio en la Orden mercedaria, en 1600, y su profesi�n al a�o siguiente en Guadalajara. Parece que hab�a escrito comedias y por entonces viaj� por Galicia y Portugal. En 1614 sufri� su primer destierro de la corte por sus s�tiras contra la nobleza. Dos a�os m�s tarde fue enviado a la Hispaniola (actual Rep�blica Dominicana) y regres� en 1618. Su vocaci�n art�stica y su actitud contraria a los cen�culos culteranos no facilit� sus relaciones con las autoridades. En 1625, el Concejo de Castilla lo amonest� por escribir comedias y le prohibi� volver a hacerlo bajo amenaza de excomuni�n. Desde entonces s�lo escribi� tres nuevas piezas y consagr� el resto de su vida a las tareas de la orden.�
