Del escritor, dramaturgo y poeta británico-irlandés Oscar Wilde, publicado por primera vez en 1887 en la revista The Court and Society Review.
En 1891 fue incluido en una colección de historias cortas titulada El crimen de lord Arthur Saville y otras historias. Es una parodia de los relatos de terror tan comunes y celebrados en el siglo xix y de ella se han hecho diversas versiones cinematográficas. Ha sido llevado al cine y el teatro numerosas veces, y se han hecho versiones para televisión y radio.
Una familia común de América compra un castillo en el que el que se encontraran un fantasma que vaga en el ya por casi 300 años, el fantasma tratará de asustarlos pero la familia no lo tratara como a un fantasma si no como a una persona mas, le darán productos para tratar de ayudarlo, tal como un lubricante de cadenas, pero el fantasma se lo tomará como una broma y tratara de vengarse.
El final de la historia es inesperado. Oscar Wilde vuelve a entretenernos de una manera magistral con una narrativa sencillamente estupenda. Todos los niños, niñas, adolescentes y adultos se divertirán con esta novela corta y de rápida lectura. Un clásico de la literatura inglesa victoriana.
